April 17, 2002  – KollabNet Inc. is seeking 25 “early adopters” for its new software, a requirements capture tool that increases the velocity of product design and development, and captures best practices without creating additional administrative burdens.

Under normal operating procedures, valuable intellectual capital is constantly discarded as concepts are narrowed to a final product. This software environment makes the design engineer more productive, by capturing and linking to data created in the normal use of other applications, such as design software. KollabNet has termed this groundbreaking application and operating environment Knowledge Accounting™.

KollabNet  develops  software products for manufacturing firms that capture and keep track of knowledge, by replacing traditional white-boarding, data-capturing or documentation tools.

KollabNet’s environment:

  • Simplifies and enhances requirements capture
  • Provides concept-driven support for product definition
  • Accumulates preliminary design variants for easy retrieval
  • Facilitates product definition white-boarding
  • Bridges between product concept and sales configurations
“Manufacturing companies lose significant assets every time they create a design and do not save the accumulated knowledge of their common practices for future reuse, product improvement, and regulatory compliance," pointed out a spokesman for KollabNet. “And every time an experienced engineer leaves the company, his or her knowledge and experience also walk out the door.”

"How can what's in a designer's mind be captured? How can thoughts and intentions be captured and managed? How is all the information in designers' heads related to tools such as CAD/FEA/PDM/ERP/MRP and requirements documents? That is the unique capability of our product. "

Earlier efforts from other companies to capture engineering knowledge required the design engineer to do extra work. KollabNet’s unique approach simply makes existing design practice much easier, and more interesting for the engineer, while capturing the design alternatives for later re-use-both by the engineer and the whole enterprise.

KollabNet believes that it is well positioned for rapid growth, as it will introduce significant new concepts and technologies to the Knowledge Management marketplace, valued at $10 Billion in software sales by 2005.

“Early adopters” will receive special attention from the company in exchange for providing detailed feedback on their product use. They will also benefit from greatly reduced licensing fees, and membership in the “KollabNet Early Adopters” council, which will help provide strategic direction to KollabNet in the coming months. Any company desiring to participate in the “early adopters” program should email their interest to info@kollabnet.com.
